I have a HP Pavilion DV 9000, and I thought I had a major equipment issue the other day.  The laptop just wouldn’t show anything on the BLACK screen, but yet the laptop worked on external display.  This was after a hard day working on my other 2 sites Myblogs4u.com, and DisneyContestblog.com.  Needless to say I had to give my wife the desktop computer to use so she could work on MomsBlogs4u.Com.

After talking to 3-4 other experienced techs we were all coming up with the same possible issue.  We all thought that the LCD was bad.

After changing the LCD the problem was still there.  We all conversed again, and decided that the only other common problem was the inverter board.  We changed that, and still yet nothing changed.

I took some time to think through everything, and decided for myself to take apart the keyboard bezel, and toy with the LID CLOSE switch.  To my amazement that was the problem.  For some reason it is very touchy.

If you happen to have this laptop, and it works fine one day, but the next it decides to give you no lcd display, then follow this checkup…

  1. Plug an external monitor in, and see if you can operate the unit.
  2. If you can, then flip the laptop over, and take out the battery.  Unscrew the 6 screws, and gently remove the keyboard bezel.  On the left is the lid close switch.  Try to operate.
  3. If you can, then you know where the problem is.
  4. If you can’t, then you need to check the lcd, and the inverter.
